In the grounds are two very useful substantial outbuildings about 300 sq. feet each, both very old. One has a wonderful history - built in the early seventeen hundreds, as the original Post Office and grocery store in Clementsport. Then when a new Post Office was constructed In the early eighteen hundreds, the property was acquired by Mr. Shaw for a workshop, and was hauled to this property with Oxen.
Mr. Shaw's business was building and repairing Sulkies and Cutters (that is Horse drawn vehicles) and someone noted with pencil on a board inside the building, that on a date in 1864 that so many Sulkies and so many cutters was repaired this month. It was Mr. Shaw who owned the land around the area and built the main house, hence the name of the road 'Shawmut Avenue'
